MacBook Air Review

On November 11, 2010, in gadgets, technology, by garytheguru

I recently purchased the 13.3″ version of the MacBook air. Initially I was going to get the MacBook Pro since the price point for the Pro and the Air are very close. The main reason I was leaning towards the Pro was because of the claimed 10 hour battery life. Since I have the iMac, I cannot even think of doing any sort of video or photo editing on a laptop anymore. With that said, the additional processing power that the Pro has over the Air only slightly came into consideration.
Upon examination in the store I noticed that with the same applications running on the Pro and the Air (13.3″), the battery life read almost similar time to death readings. This does back up Apple’s claim that their battery tests are more real world tests versus earlier stated time frames. The Pro will only last 10 hours if you aren’t doing anything in ANY application.
So, once I saw that the battery life was similar for both models, I decided to go with the newest toy in the product line and enjoy the additional benefit of the Air.

I really love how thin and light this thing is. I am one of those people who expects technology in computers to be representative of our advances. The boot time on this thing is phenomenal with a fresh power up only taking all of about 11-13 seconds.

You can find the detailed specs on apple and other sites. I am really surprised at the performance of the machine considering the processor is only 1.86 GHz. The SSD surely helps you forget about any lag in performance you may have noticed with this processor running with a standard harddrive.
